WE’RE YOUR HOSTS.
AND THIS IS OUR STORY.

Welcome to Zalnerhof in Lüsen! We are Katrin, Johannes, Klara, Lorenz and Irma, and we look forward to having you as our guest. Zalnerhof has been our family-run farm for generations, passed down from Grandma Maria and Grandpa Johann to Martha and Herbert, and now to us.

Zalnerhof is our labour of love: we manage it in an honest and authentic way, tending to our meadows and Alpine pastures, turning our milk into rich, flavourful cheese and producing a range of delightful farm goods. If you are looking for a place where you can relax and recharge while also exploring nature with the Dolomites at your fingertips, this is your perfect choice. Simply indulge, savour the moment and enjoy the company. We look forward to your visit!

Since 1641

A FARM WITH A LONG HISTORY

Zalnerhof has been in the loving care of our family for nearly 400 years, and we have always done things in tune with nature. Throughout the centuries, our family history has been shaped by the influence of several strong women: Helena, Clara, Amalia and Maria in particular were the embodiment of strength and determination, and each of them left her own mark.

A fine example of their legacy dates back to 1933, when our great-grandparents Amalia and Johann built the Kreuzwiesenalm hut on the Lüsner Alp. Another milestone was reached in 1972, when our grandparents Maria and Johann renovated the farmhouse and transformed Zalnerhof into a guesthouse with 11 rooms. Today, we uphold this legacy, blending modern comforts with stylish cosiness. Ours is a farm with a long history, and a place with its own soul. Visit us and experience it for yourself!

NATURAL LIVING
THAT FEELS GOOD

Today, Zalnerhof features a harmonious blend of traditional architecture and contemporary design. Our apartments are crafted entirely from spruce and larch sourced from our own woods – a healthy, sustainable and pollutant-free choice. The interiors are characterised by warm tones, Loden fabrics and timeless elegance, with large windows that bring the beauty of the outdoors inside. Outside, generous terraces, comfortable loungers and a dining table provide the perfect space for relaxing. The summertime highlight, however, is the fragrant flower-strewn meadow with a swimming pool, where you can unwind and sunbathe while taking in the breathtaking mountain view.

IN TUNE WITH NATURE

Early morning at the Zalnerhof

It is the rhythms of nature and farm work that set the pace of our daily life here at Zalnerhof. Each morning at 6 o’clock, Johannes and Herbert go to the barn. Feeding, milking, mucking out and preparing fresh bedding for the cows all come first, and only then do we make time for our breakfast.

In harmony with the seasons

In winter, we deliver our hay milk to Brimi, the local dairy concern, and our farm is heated sustainably with timber from our own woods. The cows spend the summer on the mountain pasture, where we we use the milk to produce our cheese directly on the Lüsner Alp. The pigs also enjoy the summer on the mountain pasture - preferably with a sip of fresh whey.

When everyone lends a hand

Three to four times a summer, the whole family in the village gets together to stack the harvested hay before dusk. Sweating, laughing and working together - with a lot of team spirit.

From time to time

We also like to bake, cook and make preserves, and our range of products includes jams, elderflower syrup and yogurt. We also have our own farm shop: within centuries-old walls, you will find a selection of Alpine cheeses, Speck bacon, jams and other products.

The end of a day

Towards the evening, we make our final rounds in the barn, tending to our pigs, small animals and Braunvieh cows – an alpine breed that we’ve been raising here at Zalnerhof for generations.
